The Best Of Sal Jose Del Cabo
San Jose Del
Cabo visitors looking for a spectacular place to stay will
not find anything nicer than the residences at VILLAS DEL MAR. Want to
be impressed? Visit their web site! Even Bill Gates loves staying here.
Campers and RV's looking for the best place to set up camp in a natural
environment usually head 30 minutes northeast of town on the coastal
dirt road to the postcard-perfect beaches of the EAST CAPE. There are no
RV or camping services, just mile after mile of pristine beach and clear
ocean waters. San Jose visitors looking for a first class ocean view
dining experience will appreciate the food, service and views of
ARRECIFES RESTAURANT at the Westin Resort just south of town. The
deserts are to die for! And the best place in town to enjoy an
oceanfront margarita and watch the waves crash on the shore is ZIPPER'S
BAR AND GRILL on the beach at the south end of town. This is where they
serve that Cheeseburger in Paradise that Jimmy Buffet sings about! The
best place in town to pull up a cold cervesa and listen to evening music
is TROPICANA BAR AND GRILL on the main street in the heart of downtown
San Jose del Cabo, east side of the street. The restaurant offers indoor
and outdoor dining and a very fun environment. The best road trip from
San Jose del Cabo is the one hour road trip north of town to the quiet
Baja seaside town of BUENA VISTA. It's an easy excursion for breakfast
or lunch! Fishermen in search of tight lines will love the affordable
rates and easy access of the panga fishing just east of the estuary at
LA PLAYITA. It's best to go to this beach the day before to make
reservations with a skipper. The best place to snorkel? Hand's down the
best place to dip your mask near San Jose is the protected beaches,
reefs and coves of PLAYA CHILENO. The parking is close by, cold drinks
are available and the friendly fish swim right up to check out the
tourists! And if you came to the Cape to shred waves the best place to
surf in San Jose del Cabo is COSTA AZUL just 10 minutes from downtown.
It's mostly a right reef break with some left shoulders at the south
end. Boards are for rent and wax is available at the Costa Azul Surf
Shop just up the street.
Beachs
The beaches of San Jose del Cabo are beautiful! They
begin at La Playita, just east of town on the other side of the estuary,
and run all the way down the coast to the beaches of CABO SAN LUCAS!
Because these beaches face the Pacific Ocean, they are a bit more
exposed to the influences of swells and waves, and swimmers need to be
more careful here than on the beaches of the Sea of Cortez.
For information on how to protect your skin while beaching in the hot
Baja sun visit the SUNSCREEN TIPS section of Mexico Expo!
LA PLAYITA
Just east of town, taking Benito Juarez Blvd. east
over the river, then head right towards the ocean.
White sandy beaches running for miles up the coast! A gathering spot for
locals.
This is the main place for panga fishing departures out of San Jose del
Cabo.
Away from the main tourist zone but only a 5 minute drive.
PLAYA HOTELERA
Just south of downtown, or take Highway One a bit past
town, and turn left at sign.
Large white beautiful beaches, almost always empty, even during the busy
seasons. Most of the guests in the half dozen large hotel here stay
pretty close to their pools.
COSTA AZUL
Two miles south of San Jose, right turn off the
highway before the big river wash.
Sandy beach, rocky bottom. Fun beach for surfing, boogie boards, or
hanging out. A restaurant/bar right on the beach is the perfect place
for lunch and to watch it all.
PLAYA ACAPULQUITO
(Old Man's)
Just on the other side of the bluffs at the west end
of Costa Azul scenic overlook. Access is from Highway One northbound,
exit at the dirt road by the beach houses.
A beautiful, but somewhat smaller, beach. Usually not as crowded as
Costa Azul.
PUNTA PAMILLA
Right off Baja Highway One at the fancy new offramp
and overpass at Km. 26.
The beach bluff area east of the Pamilla Hotel is great for snorkeling
when it's calm. The beaches west of the bluffs are sandy and gorgeous,
perfect for relaxing!
PLAYA CHILENO
Next to the Hotel Cabo San Lucas, off the Baja Highway
Km. 22 at parking lot.
Combination sandy beaches and low rocky bluffs in a spectacular beach
setting.
The offshore reefs come right up to shore, allowing very easy access for
snorkeling in very clear water!
Watersports shack offers rentals and cold drinks.
SANTA MARIA BAY
Just east of the Hotel Twin Dolphin, exit Baja Highway
One at Km. 11.5 at sign.
Parking is available just east of the cove off of the dirt road, and at
Twin Dolphin.
Picture postcard crescent beach, perfect for lounging and snorkeling on
both sides!

SCUBA & SNORKELING
Diving is an unforgettable experience in the Sea of Cortez.
There are ship wrecks, caves, reefs, canyons, and unique
sandfalls to explore. There are several places along Land's
End at Cabo San Lucas Bay. Night dives are also available.
Where you go depends on your expertise, but a license is
required.
Price: Prices vary, but the approximate cost of a
standard 2-tank dive package is $66.00.
Snorkeling is found at Lovers Beach by the famous Arch, at
Whales Head Beach with its private coves, at Shipwreck
Beach, and at Santa Maris Bay (just past the Hotel Twin
Dolphin/50-foot visibility). Chileno Bay on the corridor
offers everything from swimming to water skiing. Playa
Palmilla, just north of the Hotel Palmilla, is perfect for
small children and those who like to wade up to their knees.
Sunbathers will love the beach near the Finisterra and
Terrasol but due to rough currents swimming is NOT
recommended.
